Boris Johnson has tested positive for Covid-19

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a video posted to Twitter, he said that he had developed mild symptoms of the virus (temperature and persistent cough) and he will self-isolate in Downing Street.

Johnson said that he will continue to “lead the government’s response [to Covid-19] via video-conference.”

In that video, he said it was “very moving” to join in the “national clap for the NHS” last night. He also praised NHS staff, social care workers, police, teachers and DWP staff – saying there was an “amazing national effort by public services.”

The UK has more than 11 thousand cases of Covid-19, and 578 people in the UK who contracted Covid-19 have died.
